I just recently found this blog through my savvy use of the Twitter and if nothing else comes out of my "tweeting" experience, this is a GREAT blog, Scuba Diver Girls.
Nice to see some of the girls out there banding together. Not only that, but they've done a really good job with the site. For any of us trying to establish our own websites, this is a good template to look at. Fun to follow and read.

August Dive Dates
I'd like to try to book Point Lobos or a boat for August 1st - I'll put out the word and see how many we can get to go on the dives! Fun dives only, no class. Bring your cameras!!
Also, I'm going to advertise for Gene's annual Tahoe trip, August 29 & 30. This trip is for both fun dives and altitude certification. I haven't gone yet, so I was thinking about joining this group and I might take the altitude class myself, since I've never done it. It's a great time to visit Tahoe and terrific instructing staff.

Shadow Divers
Just finished listening to this book on CD, I'd heard about it and always wanted to read it, so it was perfect when I saw it on my way back up to California. For all you divers out there, WWII historians, and general wreck/treasure hunting enthusiasts, this is a GREAT read!
It's about two of the super macho East Coast divers who were well known already in the wreck world for diving the Andrea Dorea (http://uwex.us/ADsitemap.htm) and discovering/diving many others. I had a chance to hear about diving the Dorea at a seminar before and learn about some of the crazy risks these guys take, but the story in Shadow Divers really beats what I heard at the seminar. Their risks sometimes take your breath away, but it also is an excellent reminder about the risks of diving in general and learning to be as self sufficient as possible.
If you drive a lot, I recomend the book on CD because the reader is excellent and breaks out with a decent Brooklyn accent whenever needed.

Taking a Year off Teaching
I'll be taking the year off teaching scuba (July 2009-June 2010), but still hoping to see all of you out in the water! We're hoping to do some fun dives this August, send me a message if you'd like to call in and try to get reservations for Pt. Lobos in August!

Some information on the Philippines
Here are is a link to Tubataha Reef from UNESCO with more links to conservation projects in the Philippines below.
We'll be putting together a dive trip to Palawan for later this year. Most likely we'll stay at three different eco resorts in centeral Palawan and take a boat trip out to Tubataha Reef. This is some of the most exceptional diving in the world. If there is time, we'll also go over to Bohol for some diving with hammerhead sharks and other wonderful creatures.
